Every wine has a story, and Eden Hall’s is one worth telling. Founder David Hall was actually a Spinal Surgeon who simply had a taste and passion for wine until he took it one step further to produce his own and what a great decision that was! In 1996, they acquired the historic Avon Brae property, once home to vineyards before becoming a sheep grazing and dairy farm. With a deep appreciation for the land, they revitalised the vineyard, ensuring its legacy would continue. Today, Eden Hall spans 33 hectares, producing elegant cool-climate reds and its flagship Riesling.

The Eden Hall 2022 Reserve Riesling is a testament to this dedication. Why reserve? Well each year, the best parcel of fruit is selected. Pale straw in colour, you can look for scents of rose petal and jasmine. The palate delivers a vibrant burst of lime and zesty lemon, with acidity that leads to a long, steely finish. While already impressive, this Riesling is built to age gracefully, developing even greater complexity over time.

Eden Valley produces exceptional Riesling but we had to go the 2022 Vintage. The 2022 vintage was one of balance and quality, aided by favourable weather. Near-average winter rainfall replenished the soil, and despite an extreme weather event in October, Eden Hall’s vineyards remained largely unharmed. A mild summer, followed by well-timed January rain, provided ideal ripening conditions, resulting in a vintage that exceeded expectations, earning 9 out of 10 from Halliday Wine Companion.

Riesling is one of the best wines for cellaring, yet it remains underrated. Over time, its youthful citrus and floral notes evolve into layers of honey, toast, and spice while maintaining its signature acidity and freshness. The Eden Hall 2022 Reserve Riesling is a prime example, promising to transform beautifully over the next decade or more.
