2021 Ulithorne Prospera Shiraz
First planted back in the 1950s Ulithorne is another icon of McLaren Vale. Focused on small select batches of wine focusing on a minimalist approach to winemaking.
With the aim of producing small, high quality wines, they are heavily influenced by their associate Laurence Feraud, owner of Domaine du Pegau of Chateauneuf-de-Pape. Not familiar? We don't expect you to know what or who that is. Let's just say it's an incredible winery in France dating back to 1600's making some of the best (yes they have been ranked in the top 3 in the country) big reds in France! A perfect fit for McLaren Valke don't you think?
We think its top value at $50 let alone anything less. This wine should age all the way to 2032 but like any wine its up to the style of wine that you prefer as to when to drink it. Its drinking window is really from 2023-2032. Make sure you have a few in the cellar to see how this one ages!
Halliday tasting notes described smoked meats and vanilla curd aromas, spice and dark plum with clove pepper and cardamom - it's really an Aussie Shiraz Classic! (with a French influence...)
